Doesn’t God Love Gay People?
Written by: Mike | March 6th, 2008The answer that immediately comes to mind is, “Well, yeah!” We know God loves everybody, but then we’re confused when we see Bible verses that say homosexuality is a sin. What does that mean for gays?
Let’s ask ourselves: does God think the way we do? Not quite (Isaiah 55:9). So I wonder if God would even think of people as “gay” or “straight” in the first place?
Like the verse linked to above says, God’s ways are much higher than ours. You know, the Bible really never classifies people as “gay” or “homosexual” (even though some translations make it seem that way). The Scriptures only ever talk about homosexuality being a kind of behavior–not a kind of person.
The gay identity is a relatively new concept in world history. Some people think that people in the past weren’t “enlightened” enough to understand it; others say that real gay people didn’t exist back in Bible times–that they have sort of evolved into what gay is today.
But we know that Gospel tells us that mankind is fallen. We all experience desires that pull us away from God’s will, especially in the area of sexuality! Homosexual attraction is just one of many of those desires. If you think about it, God must have expected that there would be people who would struggle with same-sex attraction–otherwise, why would He need to tell us not to engage in it?
So it’s more accurate to say that, rather than seeing people as “gay,” God just sees people–some of whom have same-sex attractions, and others who have different struggles. And He loves them all. The only question is whether we are willing to daily make an effort in faith to submit our ground-level ways to His heavenly ones .

its interesting that people equate love with affirmation of an action. we dont doubt that God loves the prostitute on the street (though He intends better for them). We dont doubt that God loves the drug addict as they stick the needle in their arm… but when it comes to homosexuality, God disapproving of a behavior is thought of as "intolerant" and "hateful." sadly… the church bears alot of the blame on that one, but with God’s grace we can work to change that.
God very much does love the homosexual!

God does love gay people. I heard it on the Oscars.

yes indeed T8ertots…. God does indeed love gay people very much. though I question Sean Penn’s qualifications to speak on theological matters, or what authority he has to speak on the sanctity of marriage after being married to Madonna! lol

i know he loves everyone. but i dont think he accepts or likes any of our sins. it just sucks that homosexuality is like the ULTIMATE sin. personally i think there are way worse things a person can do than be attracted and act on ssa. but then again god knows better so i am no one to be pretending to know what i am talking about.

Actually,
Homosexuality is not the Ultimate sin. The Ultimate sin is “blasphemy against the holy spirit” that what Jesus said. If we look at 1st corinthians 6:9-11 we see that homosexuality is listed with a whole bunch of sins. and verse 11 is the best. It says “such were some of you… but you have been washed and sanctified by the blood of Christ Jesus!” so its not the ultimate sin, and there is redemption.

I get that. And i am totally not arguing with what you are saying but i am kind of confused…because out of all the sins i read about in the bible it sounds like homsexuality is the worst one..because it says acting on homosexuality is detestible and when it is listed with all those other sins it says none of these can enter the kingdom of heaven. I do not really act on my ssa. I stopped looking at porn and havent for a good 7 or 8 months. I have never dated a girl. Although i have had countless crushes on girls and currently have feelings for someone but i know its not right. I am getting re-learning and re-defining what it means to love jesus and let Him love me in my life. I know the Lord our God wants my heart..and if i am crushing on a girl..he doesnt have my whole heart. so that is something i need to work on that i know deep down i am not trying hard enough. it is so easy to love something or someone you can see..but its really hard to love and follow something you cant. luckily, He understands that and i hope he sees me trying.

I think that of course God loves us. However, if we say we love Jesus then we will obey his commandments. In doing this, we are being obedient and this marks us different, as Christians.
